Botox injections are a popular and effective non-surgical treatment designed to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

This injectable treatment utilizes botulinum toxin, a purified protein that temporarily relaxes the muscles responsible for facial expressions. By targeting specific areas, Botox smooths out dynamic wrinkles, such as crow's feet, frown lines, and forehead creases, giving the skin a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

The procedure is quick and minimally invasive, typically lasting just 15-30 minutes, with little to no downtime. Most patients experience only mild discomfort during the injections, often described as a slight pinch. Results can be seen within a few days and typically last three to six months, making it an excellent option for those seeking a rejuvenated look without the commitment of surgery.

Dr. Mozhgan Ashtari will conduct a thorough consultation to assess your individual needs and develop a personalized treatment plan. Whether you're looking to maintain your youthful appearance or address specific areas of concern, Botox can help you achieve your aesthetic goals safely and effectively.

WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS? WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID?

Juvederm and other dermal fillers are made of a naturally occurring gel-like material, hyaluronic acid (HA), that your body produces on its own. Our bodies production of HA is not enough, and can be supplemented with dermal fillers. Hyaluronic acid delivers nutrients to the skin, helping the skin retain moisture and softness, diminishing facial lines and restoring volume and fullness in the face.

As we age, our faces naturally lose subcutaneous fat. The facial muscles are then working closer to the skin surface, so smile lines and crow’s feet become more apparent.

The facial skin also stretches a bit, adding to this loss of facial volume. Other factors that affect the facial skin include sun exposure, heredity and lifestyle.

WHAT DERMAL FILLERS CAN DO

  • Plump thin lips
  • Enhance shallow contours
  • Soften facial creases and wrinkles
  • Improve the appearance of recessed scars
  • Reconstruct contour deformities in the face
  • Decrease or remove the shadow of the lower lids

Dermal fillers can be very helpful in those with early signs of aging, or as a value-added part of facial rejuvenation surgery.

WHAT DERMAL FILLERS CAN’T DO

For some patients, surgery such as a facelift, brow lift or eye lift may be the best approach. Nonsurgical rejuvenation treatments, such as soft tissue fillers, cannot achieve the same results, but may help delay the time when consideration of a facelift becomes appropriate. It is important to remember that dermal fillers are temporary treatments for facial aging and that ongoing treatments will be needed for long-term results.

FAQ

What are cosmetic injectables?

Cosmetic injectables are applications of the neuromodulator Botox® for wrinkle reduction and dermal fillers to plump and hydrate the skin. These products enhance your look and help you feel better from the outside in.

The type of cosmetic injectable that’s best for you depends on your ultimate beauty goals. Dr. Ashtari works with you to design a tailored plan to help you achieve your desired look. You may benefit from a combination of injectables, depending on your aesthetic needs.

Cosmetic injectable formulas can be combined to give you a lifted, smooth look similar to a facelift without the surgery, blood loss, and substantial downtime. This liquid facelift takes years off your look and boosts your confidence.

How do Botox injections work?

Botox is a neuromodulator, an injectable formulated from a purified neurotoxin that temporarily reduces the appearance of wrinkles and lines that make you look older and more serious than you actually are. The areas approved by the FDA for treatment with these injections include:

  • Frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Crow’s feet around the eyes
  • Bunny lines on the nose
  • Down-turned corners of the mouth, known as “Marionette lines”
  • Pucker lines or smoker’s lines around lip

Botox temporarily blocks the nerve signals that cause contractions in your facial muscles. The constant movement of your face when you smile, squint, or frown, causes lines and wrinkles to be etched in your skin. When this muscle activity eases, wrinkles soften.

Botox application is quick and lasts three to four months. After this, you can opt for retreatments to maintain your look.

What aesthetic concerns do dermal filler injectables address?

Dermal fillers restore lost volume in hollowed areas of your face, smooth out lines and wrinkles, and improve your facial contours. Dermal filler application can address:

  • Smile lines
  • Smoker’s lines
  • Thinning lips
  • Crow’s feet
  • Marionette lines
  • Hollowed cheeks
  • Under-eye bag hollows
  • Jawline contouring
  • Non-surgical rhinoplasty (“nose job”)

Dermal fillers provide results that look natural, so your expression softens and looks younger, without appearing as if you’ve had “work” done. When applied to several areas, you get the result akin to a liquid facelift and contouring. Results last 6-18 months, depending on the formula used and the area treated.

How do dermal filler injectables work?

Dr. Ashtari offers some of the top dermal fillers on the market. These include the hyaluronic acid-based fillers of Juvederm®, Radiesse®, Volbella®, and Voluma®. Hyaluronic acid is a natural compound that plumps and hydrates your skin, but production diminishes with age. These fillers restore your levels of hyaluronic acid to bring back a youthful look.

Belotero® is another filler with hyaluronic acid that is specifically designed to treat moderate-to-severe etched-in lines and wrinkles.

Sculptra® stimulates your skin’s own natural collagen production. This dermal filler is known as a poly-L-lactic acid (PPLA) collagen stimulator. The injections of microparticles of PPLA are administered to the areas where they stimulate collagen production to help restore your skin’s inner structure and volume.
